The afternoon of December 8th, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NUPT), Vice President, Huang Wei, and New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Vice-president and Provost, Dr. Richard Pizer, on behalf of the two schools, held a press conference at Beijing International Club Hotel in China. The two schools will convene a two-day global forum in April 2010 7th--9th in Nanjing which theme is green imagination: energy, education and environment proposal.
At the beginning of the press conference, two schools played a video to introduce NUPT and NYIT. Vice-president Huang Wei and Dr. Pizer made important speeches. The forum will invite senior government officials, experts from ambitious companies from all over the world, as well as the leading persons in the field of key university presidents and higher education from both China and the United States. They will get together to explore the sustainability challenges and its solutions which includes technology and policy. The forum will make a direct, innovative and intelligent solution on the most challenging aspects in 21st century, that are energy, environment and education. The two parties believed that only by a comprehensive, interdisciplinary cooperation can we solve the complex issues for both the energy and environment concerned.
After the press conference, Vice President Huang Wei said to CBN journalists Although currently people s attention is only focused on the industry, transportation and other fields which can bring the obvious effect on emission reduction, they will attach the importance to the interrelated teaching and research activities. Meanwhile, the basic research, high-tech development won t be ignored . The parties for the conference concerned will continue to discuss new areas and technologies of investment and other issues, and also how the higher education plays the greatest role in facing the challenges of the field of energy and the environment and so on. Universities and companies from all over the world will present their latest scientific innovative research items to all the participants.
The Forum was held after the Copenhagen Climate Conference, it was a perfect time to discuss the prospects of climate change policy and new Sino-American areas and technologies of investment and other issues.
According to preliminary discussion, the co-organizers of this forum were: the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the United States Institute of Chemical Engineers (including the Sustainable Development Forum, Sustainable Development Institute, Environment Department), the International Waste-to-energy Council, Columbia University Earth Engineering Center and Omni Construction Company.
