On December 8, co-sponsored by Shanghai Maritime University and World Maritime University, organized by Shanghai International Shipping Institute, the High-level Roundtable Forum on Port Development 2010- Future Strategic Transformation of Port Development was successfully held at Gran Meli Hotel Shanghai. Through open and roundtable discussion, themed with Future Strategic Transformation of Port Development, this forum had three topics: Port Cross-regional Development Strategy, Future Visions on Port Operation and Management and Port Business Development.
Over 80 leaders of departments concerned and academic experts in this field attended this forum. They were leaders from Water Bureau of Ministry of Transport, Shanghai Transport and Port Authority, Shanghai Construction and Traffic Committee, scholars from Shanghai Maritime University, World Maritime University and Wuhan University of Technology and experts from Representative Office of Port Authority of New York, New Jersey in Shanghai, EUROGATE European Group Shanghai Representative Office, Embassy of the Netherlands in Shanghai, Port of La Spezia, Italy and Korea Maritime Institute, etc.
Prof. Yu Shicheng, President of SMU, and Prof. Dr. Ma Shuo, Vice President of World Maritime University made welcome speeches at the opening ceremony.
Mr. Bao Qifan, Vice President of Shanghai International Port Group proposed that innovation led the transformation of port development. He suggested transforming port business from traditional one into a modern service industry. Mr. Xu Minjie, President of COSCO Pacific Ltd. expressed his view on foundations of future transformation of port development, stages of port development and terminal core competitiveness of supplier.
This forum provided a platform for wide exchange among leaders and experts who had launched an in-depth discussion on problems concerning port development.
