3 SCUT teachers win 4th "Guangdong University and College Distinguished Teacher Award"

Recently, the Department of Education of Guangdong Province commended winners of the 4^th "Guangdong University and College Distinguished Teacher Award." Three teachers from SCUT faculty received the honor, including Professor ZHU Wenjian from the School of Mechanical & Automotive Engineering, Professor CHEN Li from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and Professor CAI Jian from the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation.

It is reported that 35 teachers won the awards in this session, including 29 university teachers and 6 college teachers.

As the chief professor of SCUT "Machinery Foundation" teaching team, Professor ZHU Wenjian unswervingly takes the cultivation of the students' comprehensive design and innovation ability as the final goal of course construction and teaching reform. She emphasizes the integration of theory and practice and the cultivation of students' innovativeness. She has won the second prize of the 4^th National Teaching Achievements Award and first prize of the 5^th Guangdong Provincial Teaching Achievements Award sequentially. She is also in charge of "Machinery Design Foundation," the national elite course, and serves as the main lecturer of "Machinery Design," the provincial elite course, and the vice chairman of Machinery Foundation National Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center.

Professor CHEN Li persists in student-oriented teaching, attaches great importance to the reform of teaching approaches, and focuses on the cultivation of students' innovativeness and comprehensive quality. He is also active in research on teaching reforms and has made remarkable achievements. He has won the second and first prize of the National Teaching Achievements Award in 2001 and 2005 sequentially. He was named as "Nanyue Excellent Teacher" in 2007.

Professor CAI Jian emphasizes the transition of teaching concept, the adjustment of course structure, and the reorganization of course contents. He devotes himself to building harmonious relationship between teachers and students, to reforming teaching approaches, and to cultivating students' innovativeness. He has won the second and first prize of Guangdong Teaching Achievements Award in 1997 and 2005 sequentially.
