The true value of university lies in its accumulation of knowledge, transmission of civilization and continuous attempt to understand the world. Students should enhance their capability of understanding the world and cultivate this concept in their life-long learning process. This is the point made by Professor Jin Xiangrong in his lecture Concept of university: to understand or change the world . Prof. Jin is the current Vice-Dean of School of Economics, Zhejiang University. His speech was one of the keynote speeches in the Deans Forum of Academic Month of Liberal Arts at Zhejiang University.

The forum gains wide attention and keen support from the Deans of different schools. The Deans deliver speeches on topics concerned with academic research, development of the school, personnel training and so on. The forum started on May 25 when Prof. Xia Li an, the Vice-Dean of Guanghua Law School, gave a lecture on University governance and humanism and Prof. He Huibin on Contribution of foreign literature to the construction and innovation of Chinese culture .

The lectures receive warm welcome from teachers and students alike. They are interested both in the content of the lectures and the Deans view on the role of liberal arts and the university itself. The forum will continue until early June. More lectures are to come covering topics on innovation, China s western development, public service oriented government and so on.
