President of Rice University Lectured at Peiyang Forum

On October 14, Dr. David Leebron, President of Rice University and his wife Madam Y. P. Sun were invited to make speeches on Humanistic Spirit and Education at Peiyang Forum. More than 400 TU students attended the forum. During his speech, President Leebron talked about American Higher Education and Rice University.

He said, in contrast to the focus on specialized knowledge in China, the American universities pay more attention to students all-round development, with leadership in particular. As for Rice University, he briefed the audience its history, scholarships, schools, international students, development strategy and so on.

He also expressed the hope to strengthen ties with Chinese universities. In the following speech by Madam Sun, she talked about her experience of studying abroad as well as the difference between eastern and western cultures. Her motto of Never ever give up met with universal applause. After the speeches, President Leebron and Madam Sun exchanged ideas with the audience on life plan, distance between dream and reality, when and where to study abroad and so on.

Peiyang Forum was founded by integrating Academician Forum , Talks on New Century and Dialogue with Well-Known Corporations . By now, the forum has held 300 lectures and speeches by celebrities in all walks, including Mr. LI Lanqing, former Vice Premier of State Council of China, Mr. Kim Ha Joong, Korean Ambassador to China, Mr.

Wang Daheng, Father of China's Photoelectricity and so on. After the Forum, President GONG Ke warmly greeted the guests. Prof. YUAN Jingjin, Dean of School of Chemical Engineering, Prof. ZENG Jian, Dean of School of Architecture, Prof. YANG Fuling, Director of International Cooperation Office attended the meeting.
