In ancient times weaving carpets took days and weeks, it made artisans work laborious, but the introduction of weaving machines made the job easier. Soon weavers started manufacturing carpets on machines and ancient technique took a back seat.
However, in Russian Republic of Ingushetia, there are few craftsmen who use traditional technique of tying countless knots and endless rows to bring out magical patterns on carpet.
Ms Rosa Tangieva, famous weaver of this region, is one of the handful artisans alive using this age old method.
Rosa has exhibited her exclusive hand woven carpets in different parts of world and mesmerized the onlookers. Weaving rugs as her ancestors did, is a sheer pleasure for her which reflects in the captivating designs.
Efforts of Ms Tangieva have inspired many weavers to use traditional manner of crafting carpets so that the art doesn’t fade away with passing time.
