K P Garments, a Kolkata based manufacturer of Children apparel, basically exporting into the Middle East market, has decided to open an exclusive outlet for school uniforms christened ‘Only School’ at Lansdown Road.
Spanning an area of 1,000 - 2,000 square feet, Only Schools stores will basically market school uniforms and stationery. The company plans to foray into organized retail with an investment of Rs4 crore for setting up ten more retail outlets with in next one year.
In an exclusive interview with Fibre2fashion, Mr Hiren Panchal, the Director of K P Garments said, “We have chosen school uniform business, as it is highly unorganized and fragmented in Kolkata. Parents suffer a lot to deal with the recommended store by schools, and they take advantage of this and harass parents and children. Moreover, the stitching, finishing and fabrics are not up to the mark, and the parents are not getting value for their money.”
Talking about expansion throughout India, the Director further added, “We are planning a Pan India presence but in the first phase we have decided to focus on the eastern zone. Observing the response in Kolkata, we will set up 100 more stores across the states of West Bengal, Assam, Bihar & Orissa’.
Mr Panchal stated, “We have a manufacturing facility in the Tiljala area of kolkata, and all the Only School uniforms will be produced in our own manufacturing plants.”
K P Garments is into exports of children garments for the last 10 years. They also import silk fabrics from China and perfumes and body spray from various other countries.
