China Reports One New FMD Outbreak

CHINA - The Chinese veterinary authorities have reported a new outbreak of foot and mouth disease in swine.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) reports that the outbreak occured on 7 April in Gansu.
A total of 640 cases were reported, and 831 of the animals showed susceptibility to the disease. These animals were destroyed.
The source of the outbreak has not yet been identified.
Real-time PCR and virus isolation tests were conducted on 12 April in the Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, confirming the presence of the FMD virus, serotype O.
