Taiwan peach market reopens at last

Write: Yavonna [2011-05-20]
Peach and nectarine growers are celebrating a big win, with the lucrative Taiwanese market being reopened for exports.
Australian growers lost access to the markets six years ago because of biosecurity concerns, and have been fighting ever since to get it back.
Ian McAlister, from Summerfruits Australia, says Taiwan could be worth up to $30 million a year for our growers.
"I think it's the only good news we've had in the last 12 months," he says.
"The industry is under pressure with the Murray Darling Basin reports, so to have a new market open to us as producers is fantastic."
