China has launched an investigation this week into European Union subsidies on potato starch. It wants to determine whether the EU has been exporting potato starch unfairly to mainland china.
The Commerce Ministry launched the investigation after receiving a complaint by the China Starch Industry Association on June 30, according to a report by the state-run Xinhua news agency, which cited a Commerce Department statement.
The investigation will seek to determine if unfair competition exits, and if so, the degree to which it is harming the domestic industry, the report said. The ministry said the investigation is expected to take about a year.
