Following the problems in Ivory Coast, foodcareplus has worked out an alternative solution for the export of mangoes from Mali, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast to Europe. Via her operations in Tema, Ghana operating reefer containers are positioned to the most important packing stations and shipped via the port of Tema directly to Antwerp, Belgium. The transit time including the refrigerated trucking from packing station until the port of Antwerp varies between 18 and 24 days depending chosen steamship line.
Upon arrival in Antwerp, reefer containers can be delivered immediately to any cold store. Alternatively, the mangoes can be delivered to any European location by reefer truck through a third party cold store. foodcareplus offers all-in rates.
The mangoes from Mali, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast are usually shipped using a rail connection between the packing stations and the port of Abidjan. The measures taken by the European Communion however, have halted operations in the port of Abidjan seriously. There are some interesting advantages using the foodcareplus solution via Tema: the cargo or at least the reefer equipment can be monitored more often during its trip and there are less problems inherent to rail. Moreover, it was concluded that the additional cost related to the foodcareplus solution can be limited from 12 to 20 eurocent per kilogram in comparison to the traditional routing.
