Some Sunshine Coast pineapple growers have only been able to plant 10 per cent of their crops this year because of heavy summer rainfall. Glass House Mountains grower Gary Pike says it has been impossible to plant pineapples in the sodden soil over the past three months. He says most Sunshine Coast growers have been unable to get all of their crops in the ground.
"Most growers are exactly the same, they're struggling because they just couldn't get in the ground, sometimes some of the ground we worked up four times, every time we worked it up to plant, the rain would come and we'd be stopped again," he said. "So there's really only this last 10 days we've been able to get some plants on the ground and our farm."
