U.S. asparagus growers who lost money from imports of the vegetable from 2004 to 2007 crop years can apply for $15 million in compensation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said today. Michigan is home to about 200 asparagus farms, most of whom will qualify for compensation that was put in the 2008 farm bill, according to John Bakker, executive director of Michigan Asparagus Growers. "I know they will," he said.
