Delegates from University of Alicante Visits GDUFS

November 27th- Ms. Bego San Miguel, Vice president in charge of International Relations of University of Alicante, Spain, visited GDUFS on Nov. 25th. The delegation also included Architectural Professor Mr. Efigenio Gimenez, Oriental Studies Director Ms. Ana Martinez Oses and Chinese teacher Chen Yu. President Zhong Weihe welcomed the guests along with Jiao Fangtai, Director of the International Office, Liang Xuehong, Dean of Institute of Education for International Students and Huang Qiaoping, Party Secretary from the Faculty of European Languages and Cultures.

It is reported that this visit covered the meeting with the exchange students in GDUFS from University of Alicante, observation of GDUFS's European languages instruction and teaching for international students, and more focus was laid on the possibility of expanding the exchange partnership.

The Spanish delegation first visited the library, and then moved to a classroom to observe a performance from the Spanish majors of 2009. The performance, along with an introduction video of the University of Alicante, Ms. Ana's witty language, and the students' positive responses made it a very relaxing and vigorous meeting.

Then the delegation went to visit the four exchange students from University of Alicante in the meeting hall of Institute of Education for International Students. There they exchanged ideas about whether the exchange students lived and studied well here. This meeting ended with the delegation presenting gifts to the exchange students.

After that, President Zhong and other leaders welcomed the delegation in the Reception Hall. President Zhong expressed his appreciation to the University of Alicante for welcoming him on his sudden visit in October of 2007. President Zhong pointed out that though GDUFS had a shorter history than the University of Alicante, the two shared much in common on the level of education and other aspects of running their schools. With the news that the major of Spanish has become one of the hottest majors in China, he also shared his expectation for further partnerships in the future.

Ms. Bego expressed her approval of President Zhong's words. She mentioned that GDUFS is a trustworthy university with which the University of Alicante has exchanged three students to date. She said that she is very pleased with the six Chinese exchange students from GDUFS. Thus, she showed a great interest in furthering the partnership between the two universities and proposed that the number of exchange students grow to eight. At last, the meeting was ended in the exchange of gifts.

Introduction to University of Alicante:

Founded in October of 1979, University of Alicante, whose predecessor is the University of Orihuela created in 1545, now has over 33000 students. It is considered to be one of the best campuses in Europe for its covering of one-million square meters with the best urban design and the most innovative architecture in an excellent environmental framework. Up till now, it provides over fifty degrees with over sixty majors ranging from Social and Legal Sciences to Education.

Director of its International Office visited GDUFS in 2004.

Two sides Signed contract for partnership in 2005.

President Zhong visited University of Alicante in 2007, and put forward the idea of exchanging project.

Exchange project started in 2008, and three batches up to now.
