Recently, the new Consulate General of Israel in Guangzhou officially opened at the development center on Linjiang Road. An Taiyi, the Israeli ambassador in china, along with Professor Ada Yonath, the Israeli woman scientist, the winner of 2009 Nobel Prize for Chemistry, who is called "Madame Curie"of the contemporary era, made a special trip to Guangzhou. They unveiled the new consulate together with Mr. Song Hai,Vice Governor of Guangdong Province and Mr. Avraham Nir, the consul general of the Consulate General of Israel in Guangzhou.

Vice-President Zhang Yueheng attended the opening ceremony of the consulate, the theme of which was "Science and Technology for better Future-Israel and China Partnership". He witnessed this moment along with 150 government officials, scholars and entrepreneurs from Fujian, Guangxi and Hainan province.

The Consulate General of Israel in Guangzhou was established in 2009, which was the third Israeli Consulate General in China following Shanghai and Hong Kong, facing provinces in southern China, such as Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi and Hainan . It showed Israel's great attention to South China, especially the Pearl River Delta. Mr. Avraham Nir, the first consul general of the Consulate General of Israel in Guangzhou said that they would actively promote the cooperation on business community, academic community and the investment community with South China, especially the Pearl River Delta .

Vice-President Zhang Yueheng introduced the basic information of SCAU to the consul general and Professor Yonath, and he hoped that SCAU could strengthen the scientific cooperation and academic exchange with the universities in Israel, and he hoped to enter into more in-depth cooperation in horticulture, soil, water resources, agricultural environment and resource economics, animal science and other areas.

In the opening ceremony, they also held the launching ceremony of the Chinese version of an international best-selling book "Israel-A Start-up Nation ". The book described the significant achievements Israel had made and explained the course of a nation with only 7 million people becoming world-leading in high-tech area.
