51st Sports Meeting Successfully Held

At 8:00am on April 23rd, a sunny day, the opening ceremony of the 51st Sports Meeting of CNU was held on the sports ground. The participants consisted of Chen Ning and Lin Rongrong, both deputy secretary of Party Committee of CNU, Pan Liang, secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, vice president Zhou Jianshe and Wang Xiaoxia, staff of all the colleges and departments, heads of the administration units and all the students. The ceremony was chaired by He Yongchao, director of Department of PE Teaching and Research and Pan Liang declared the opening of the sports meeting.
What followed was the march-in ceremony. 19 formations in all, including formation of national flag, of red flags, of various colleges and of postgraduates marched passing by the podium enthusiastically one by one, and their loud slogans echoed around the sports ground. The spectacular performance by the formations won loud applause.
After the solemn national flag rising and anthem playing, Zhou Jianshe delivered opening remarks. He noted that while CNU endeavored to enhance its strength and improve education quality, it attached great importance to physical health of both the faculty and students; therefore it proactively advocated physical exercise and better PE teaching. The annual sports meeting was a gala where the faculty and students could better understand each other and become friends to keep our university in unity and developing. It also served as a stage for the faculty and students to display their passion and determination and more importantly a showcase of the public s physical quality. He hoped that all the athletes would unceasingly challenge and go beyond the self with passion, confidence and will to exhibit the soul of CNU. At the end he wished the meeting a great success.
Xu Fei, on behalf of student athletes and Li Chuanzhong, of faculty and staff athletes both made a speech. They declared that all the athletes would obey the athletic morals and relevant rules; follow the judges; have fair and passionate competition to practice the Olympic spirit; and display the diligence as well as perseverance of CNU.
Then came the artistic performance. The fan dance named Blue and White Porcelain by Kede College was full of passion and nobleness. The dance association which had won lots of prizes in municipal contests with students learning sport dancing presented elegant Waltz and Tango dance. 1081 faculty and staff members performed aerobics, which attracted the eye of audience. The performance won much cheering and applause from the audience.
The sports meeting started from 3:30 pm, April 21st and closed on the afternoon of April 23rd. 1408 athletes participated in 29 contests. 18 participating units received team prize and 8 got prize for their active support.

The top 6 among Student Group B: Department of Physics, College of Fine Arts, College of Environmental Resources and Tourism, School of Mathematical Sciences, College of Education Science, Department of Chemistry.
The top 3 among Faculty and Staff Group A: Logistic Service Group, Elementary Education College, Administrative unit.
The top 6 among Faculty and Staff Group B: College of Environmental Resources and Tourism, School of Mathematical Sciences, College of Life Science, College of Fine Arts, College of International Education, College English Department.
8 units with support prize: College of Political Science and Law, Department of Educational Technology, College of Life Science, Elementary Education College, College of Fine Arts, College of Literature, Department of Chemistry, College of Foreign Languages.
