On the evening of Sept. 20, the lighting ceremony for the country's 60th anniversary was held on SCUT South Campus.
The lighting ceremony was performed around the student dormitory C5. Much earlier before the exciting moment, the volleyball playground in front of C5 was crowded by excited students waving small national flags and fluorescence sticks, and so were the students of the neighboring dormitories. At 8:30, the dormitory successively turned on and off different dorm lights forming the characters "SCUT", "I Love U", "CHN", and "60" (respectively standing for the University, "I Love You", China, and the 60th birthday). The brilliant lighting was responded with waves of cheers and shouts of the students to wish the country a happy birthday. Many have recorded the moment by cameras and cell phones.
The ceremony is one of the activities organized by the University to mark the 60th birthday of the People's Republic of China. In these activities, SCUT students express their sincere love and wish to our motherland.
