On the evening of April 22, the result of the First International Concept Car Design Contest was announced in Beijing. YEE, designed by PAN Jiazhi, ZHU Wenxi and LAI Zexin from the Department of Industrial Design in School of Mechanical & Automotive Engineering, won the Gold Award of Best Creative Future as well as the Most Popular Award.
The First International Concept Car Design Contest is organized by FOTON Motor Co. and the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), and received thousands of participating designs from dozens of universities, including Art Center of Design, Tokyo Communication Art Car Design and Umea University.
YEE is designed to meet the features desired by modern urbanites with moderate means who seek for fashion, excitement and eco-friendly cars. Lai, one of its designers, said: "What we design is a car easy to operate, which precisely satisfy the high-efficiency of the rapid pace of life; the intimate design and the use of new energy best embodies the contest theme: the harmonious coexistence of 'people-car-nature'."
It is reported that auto design enthusiasts as well as students of design schools from all over the world are invited to join this international competition of car design, and the judge panel is composed of well-recognized, international car designers. Besides the intriguing bonus, the grand prize winners will also have a once-in-a-lifetime experience to have the models of their designs on display at the 2010 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.
