The 12th National Technology Training Class for ancient book restoration held at SYSU

On the morning of May 26, the opening ceremony for The 12th National Technology Training Class for Ancient Book restoration hosted by the National Ancient Book Conservation Center took place at SYSU Library. There are altogether 41 trainees joining in the training. They come from 36 domestic ancient books conservation units including Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum in Chengdu of Sichuan Province, Shanxi Provincial Library, Library of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai Lexicographic Publishing House, Hunan Provincial Archives, Library of East China Normal University, Agricultural History Research Laboratory of South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou University Library and Guangzhou Municipal Construction Archives, etc.

This has been the second time for SYSU library to hold national ancient book restoration technology training class after its previous undertaking of the 3rd class in 2008. The class, which will last for 3 months, will concentrate on the training of correct understanding of repairing concept and scientific repairing technology. The training content includes the basic knowledge of the restoration of ancient books , color theories for paper-based cultural relics, paper pulp repairing, binding and layout for ancient books, choice and evaluation of methods of ancient book conservation, general introduction of American documents protection situation, etc. Besides these theoretical lessons, there will be plenty of time for the trainees to practice to get comprehensive enhancement of ancient books repairing technology.
