USTC organized the 18th International Conference on Environmental Indicators

From 13th to 16th of September, 2010, the 18th International Conference on Environmental Indicators hosted by the International Society of Environmental Indicators (ISEI) and organized by the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in Hefei.

USTC organized the 18th International Conference on Environmental Indicators

Mr. Xiankang Dou, the vice president of USTC addressed the conference. Professor Song Sun (co-chair of the local organizing committee and director of the Institute of Oceanology, CAS), Mr Jianguo Ren (Department of Earth Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation of China) attended the meeting. On the conference, there are more than 120 delegates from China and other countries and regions, including USA, UK, Canada, Germany, Finland and Israel etc.

Professor Zhiqing Lin, the vice president of the ISEI, chaired the opening ceremony. Professor Liguang Sun, the chair of the local organizing committee, addressed the welcome.

USTC organized the 18th International Conference on Environmental Indicators

During the conference, members of the Institute of Polar Environment (IPE), USTC, reported their results on polar environment research in recent 3 years. For example, they reported the Adelie penguin occupation history at Vestfold Hill for the first time, and published the results on Antarctic Science , a key journal on the polar science. The research has been reported by VerticalNews who pointed out that the results promoted the polar environmental research.

The conference was sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration, State Ocean Administration and University of Science and Technology of China.
