On March 14th, Coca-Cola China their adoption of a pair of panda twins for life. This is a further demonstration of Coca-Cola s commitment to environmentalism as well as their support of the quake stricken Sichuan area.
As an important representative of endangered wildlife, the habitat of giant pandas has always drawn societal attention. The panda twins were the first twins born after the Wenchuan earthquake. Their birth meant a lot for the Sichuan people who were (and still are) in the difficult process of rebuilding. Coca-Cola has decided to sponsor them for life.
The decision got great support and a warm response from the staff of Coca-Cola China. The staff held a spontaneous naming contest for the twins. In the end, Le Le and Mei Mei were chosen. Le and Mei are taken from a Chinese saying Ji Ji Le Guan, Mei Hao Sheng Huo which means active optimism and a good life. The names express the people s best wishes to the twins and reflect Coca-Cola s sturdy confidence and optimism in the rebuilding of Sichuan.
The president of Coca-Cola China and Korea Douglas A. Jackson said, Protecting giant pandas, a representative of endangered wildlife, is very important for harmonious development between humans and the environment. Coca-Cola has always felt environmental conservation and protection to be of the utmost importance and assisting with the plight of giant pandas is the embodiment of our company s environmental creed. Everyone loves the cute panda. We hope to share the idea of harmonious development between humans and the environment among Coca-Cola staff and customers and promote environmental conservation to society.
