A grand commissioning ceremony for MMK's Widen & Heavy Plate (5000mm) Project was held in Russia on July 24, 2009. The project was undertaken by WISDRI Engineering & Research Incorporation Ltd. (WISDRI). Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and his team members were present at the event and paid an inspection visit to the project site. Senior officials of the governments of Chelyabinsk Region and Magnitogorsk City, as well as Chairman Victor F. RASHNIKOV of MMK accompanied Putin during the visit.
This works is the very first Widen & Heavy Plate (5000mm) Project in Russia, with an output capacity of 1.5 million tons per annum and a construction period of 32 months. The products under this project will not only meet the market demand of petroleum and natural gas industries, but also be utilized for construction of bridge, vessel, heavy machine and pipe of large-diameter. The smooth commissioning of the project will play an essential role in promoting the economic growth of Russia, and in particularly the construction of export pipelines for petroleum and natural gas produced in this country.
As one of the major partners under this project, WISDRI mainly takes charge of the following aspects: (i) water treatment system; (ii) 110 0.38kV power supply and distribution system; (iii) air compression station; (iv) concentrated oil (nitrogen) supply station; and (v) supply, installation and commissioning of machineries and materials (e.g. cable and pipe fittings of the whole plant). Up to now, the contract has been executed smoothly.
