Executive Vice-President Pan Yunhe met with Prof. Bernard Weiss, Member of Royal Academy of Engineering, UK on May 18, 2010. Vice President Pan, first of all, briefly introduced basic information of CAE and primary advisory work conducted by CAE in recent years. Afterwards, Pan talked about CAE s participation in China s The Twelfth Five-Year Plan formulation and addressed a series of major problems China encountered in sustainable development, including issues regarding resources and energy, environment, industrial restructuring, energy consumption reduction, blind production and redundant construction avoidance, urbanization, as well as what can be done to win benefits for enterprises through technological innovation and its application. Finally, Pan stressed on the promotion of design innovation development.
Academician Weiss showed great interest in Pan s briefing, who also pointed out the many areas in which RAEng and CAE could possibly cooperate in the future, which include nuclear power utilization, clean coal technology, water resources utilization, construction energy conservation and synthetic biology etc. (By Zhu Yu, June 2010; translated by Liu Chang)
