IHB Prof. Hongzhu WANG made a presentation entitled "Riverine Floodplains of China: Threats and Restoration" at the 14th International Symposium on River and Lake Environmentfrom in Ueda, Japan, Aug.29, 2009
A twelve-member delegation consisting mainly of IHB professors and associate professors went to attend the 14th International Symposium on River and Lake Environmentfrom Aug. 28 to Aug. 31 in Ueda, Japan. IHB's deputy director Prof. Shouqi XIE, Prof. Shunping HE and Prof. Hongzhu WANG are in the delegation.
The 14th International Symposium on River and Lake Environment was organized by the Japanese Society of Limnology (JSL) and co-organized by Shinshu University. About 150 representatives from Chinese Mainland and Taiwan, South Korea and Japan attended this symposium.
IHB Prof. Hongzhu WANG made a presentation on the riverine floodplains of China and introduced China's researches on eutrophication and river-lake isolation at the open symposium which was specially arranged by the organizing committee for the Japanese nationals. IHB's deputy director Prof. Shouqi XIE, Prof. Shunping HE, Assistant Prof. Haijun WANG, Dr. Qingyun YAN and Dr. Wei LI made oral presentations respectively while Associate Profs. Bangding XIAO, Xuzhen WANG, Jun XU, Associate Profs. Te CAO, Longgen GUO and Senior Technician Xiaoni GAN presented posters respectively at the symposium.
The International Symposium on River and Lake Environment was initiated in 1984 by the limnologists of Kangwon National University, Korea and Shinshu University, Japan. Since 1996, it was agreed that this symposium would be held in China, South Korea and Japan by turns every two year. IHB successfully organized this symposium in 1996, 1998 and 2004 and will organize it in 2011.
On behalf of the organizing committee of the 15th Symposium, IHB's deputy director Prof. Shouqi XIE delivered a speech to invite scholars and experts to attend this symposium held in 2011 and Prof. Hongzhu WANG introduced IHB s tentative plan for organizing the 15th Symposium.
