The landscape street renovation of Shuyuan Road was kicked off with an investment of 14 million yuan. And by the end of this year, Changsha citizens will be able to enjoy the landmark scenery of the Academy-Confucius Temple Square as the phase Project completed.
The West Wenmiaoping at the junction of Shuyuan Road and Xihu Road used to be the location of Changsha Prefecture Academy (Changsha City was known as Changsha Prefecture in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644)) and the place where the ancestors paid tribute to the statue of Confucius.
To reproduce the glory of the academy, the shanty town opposite the Changsha Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine is expected to be reconstructed in the style of Confucius temple in concert with the West Wenmiaoping Memorial Archway built in 2005, forming the Academy-Confucius Temple Square.
Upon completion, the West Wenmiaoping will be the regular site for promoting Chinese classics, conducting education of traditional Chinese culture among the youngsters and carrying out adulthood ceremonies.
The renovation project will be carried out in four major areas, namely the cultural landscape area represented by Fuwang Tomb and Qingshan Temple, the commercial area represented by the Poly?Nanhu Square, the green area represented by the life-themed parks and the modern livable area around Nanjiao Park.
Apart from such exsiting scenic spots like the Academy-Confucius Temple Square and the Hunan First Normal University, cultural landscapes like the life-themed parks will be constructed along the street.
