An agreement on the co-construction of the Songya Lake international friendship forest was reached on Dec.7 between the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs of the People's Government Office of Hunan Province and Changsha County, indicating a large stretch of trees to be planted around Songya Lake, known as the "West Lake" in Changsha.
Xiao Xiangqing, director of the Foreign and Oversea Chinese Affairs Office, and Yang Yiwen, secretary of the Party and Labor Committee of the Changsha Economic Development Zone attended the signing ceremony.
Located in Changsha County, the forest covers an area of 400mu (about 26.67 hectares). It is an international friendship forest integrating the functions of commemoration, culture, sightseeing and leisure. To support its construction, overseas guests, guests from HK, Macao and other overseas Chinese will take part in the tree-planting activity. This activity will therefore be listed on the top agenda for the high-level delegations to Hunan. The forest will serve as a showcase of Hunan's international cooperation, a long-term commemorative park of significant overseas exchanges, as well as a venue of key foreign affairs and a visiting spot. It is the only one and the first formal international friendship forest in Hunan.
