BEIJING, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's daily electricity generation during the week-long Spring Festival holiday rose nearly 30 percent year on year, figures from the power dispatch center of the State Grid Corporation of China revealed Saturday.

The country's daily power generation increased 28.49 percent year on year to 8.235 billion kilowatts between Feb. 12 and Feb. 18.

The center attributed the power generation increase to low temperatures as well as increasing residential and commercial power use on the back of an economic recovery nationwide.

Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, fell on Feb. 14 this year. It is the most important Chinese traditional festival.
