If it is not for a dream, she would be leading a comfortable life in some cities right now. For this dream, she has been working for 10 years in the deep vast grassland.
In 1996, Dan Zhengcao was graduated from a medical school and started working at the health care center of Xiahe county, Gannan Zang Autonomous Region of Gansu province. During this period, she experienced something that changed her life. Many local farmers were quite sick but cannot be cured in time and some of them were dead from being delayed due to inefficient medical care. From then on, Zhengcao determined to become a Manba (meaning doctor in Tibetan dialect) and so came the dream of serving those in need in the deep grassland.
In 2000, she passed the national self-taught examination and got a doctor certificate. She then resigned her former job and came to Dajiutan village to start a health care clinic after her own name. Zhengcao made her dream come true. I was growing up here and I know there were no doctors in this village. The villagers have no where to go when they get sick, so the health condition is really bad here. Gynecological disease and respiratory disease of children are very common , she explained why she chose Dajiutan village to realize her dream. Though a doctor came to the village, it is not easy to deliver health service to the villagers at the beginning, because it is been a long time without any health care, so the villagers have no idea of seeing a doctor when they are sick , she said. In this case, Zhengcao went door to door to tell the locals that they need to take medicines or have to be given injections when feeling sick. The evidence of cured people made the rest believe what she told them.
Now Zhengcao has become the most popular doctor in the neighborhood. She also helped people to lead a civil and healthy lifestyle. I still have some regrets after all these 10 years , the 40 years old doctor said, my professional knowledge is quite limited and the medical equipments in my clinic still cannot meet the current requirements of the patients. The lack of electricity and inefficient transportation also made it very difficult for me to deliver medical treatment for the people . [Photo/Gansu Daily]
More and more people come to her clinic to ask for health care.
Her footprints are everywhere.
She is doing her best to deliver medical treatment to every patient.
Wherever she goes, she is always welcomed by the villagers.
