From 1999 to 2009, a total of 25 projects for initiation have been provided with innovation funds in Shantou, which received the state fund of 16,950,000 yuan in total. In 2010, additional 12 projects in Shantou have been approved for initiation, and the amount of funds supported from the state and the province is expected to exceed 10 million yuan.
In order to solve the problems involved financing difficulties and insufficient R&D investment of SMEs in Shantou City and to promote the independent innovation capability of the enterprises, Shantou City has actively prepared to set up local innovation funds last year. It is reported that application for 2011 technology innovation funds for science and technology intensive SMEs will be started from October 26, 2010. At present, 55 enterprises have conducted the pre-application.
