Three veterans who were once stationed in Zhongying Street reunited Sunday, 25 years after they served at the border between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Yao Zhiming, the former station sergeant of the former Hong Kong Royal Police Force, Zhong Jun and Zhang Qiuhua, former soldiers of the Zhongying Street Unit of the Sixth Detachment of the Guangdong Border Police Division, walked along Zhongying Street again Sunday, recalling their early years and observing the great changes that had taken place over the decades.
In front of the boundary stone marker, the veterans once again faced the camera of He Huangyou, now the chairman of Shenzhen Photographers Association.
The idea of a reunion took root when Yao saw a photo displayed in the Zhongying Street Museum during a visit Jan. 15.
I was one of the four officers patrolling the street, where were the other three? Yao pointed to the photo taken by He, then a photographer, in 1985.
The museum started searching and found Zhong, who is working for a security company in Bao an and then Zhang Qiuhua, who runs a business in his hometown, Shaoguan.
But they could not find the Hong Kong officer named Feng Feng.
When we were stationed in Zhongying Street, we were tasked to seize smugglers and stowaways, said Zhong.
The Zhongying Street Unit was awarded as the national model unit by the State Council in 1996.
