Waste incineration
Dongguan will start the construction of another four waste incineration plants in 2010, as it is learned from the 2009 summarizing and awarding meeting on urban management held last Thursday.
Currently, the site locations of the four incineration plants in Humen, Qingxi, Machong, and Changping have been identified. The project in Qingxi is now open for public biddings.
The second-phase expansion project of the solid waste heat power station in Houjie is expected to be completed and operating by the end of 2010. Meanwhile, the preparatory works for the second-phase expansion project of the garbage incineration power plant in Hengli also is scheduled to be finished in the second half of 2010.
"The garbage in Dongguan is increasing while land resources are diminishing. It is urgent for Dongguan to find a suitable way to treat the rubbish. Expert examination of this situation has shown that incineration is the best waste disposal way," said Zhong Yaoxiang the director of the Municipal Urban Management Bureau.
Zhong also added that the incineration plants will be constructed in accordance with strict environmental standards, even seeking to meet European Union standards.
