Ms, Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director-General was invited to visit China and had a visit to Tongji University on May 20. Mr. Zhang Minxuan, Deputy Director of City Board of Education, accompanied her to visit Asia-Pacific World Heritage Training and Research Center located in our university. She gave a speech to our faculty and students.
During the half-hour lecture, Ms. Irina Bokova said that since its inception, UNESCO had been dedicated to peace and the progress and development of education, science and culture. Facing the new challenge of globalization nowadays, the mission could be more urgent than ever before. She said that UNESCO should adapt to current needs, built a new humanitarian oriented to the 21st century and actively promoted international cooperation and exchange between regions to contribute to the human civilization progress, peace and development around the world.
It is learned that our university had established a comprehensive and multi-level cooperation step by step with UNESCO, and attended many academic exchange activities organized by UNESCO and its subordinate institutes. In recent years, many of our professors had won the UNESCO Heritage Awards.
