On the afternoon of November 2nd, President Su Zhiwu, accompanied by Vice president Ding Junjie, met Dean of Journalism School of University of Missouri, Dean Mills and his group of three people.
President Su expressed his welcome to the delegation, pointing out that both sides had been keeping an amicable partnership in the teacher exchanges and high-level visits. In the last two years the effective cooperation in the exchange of students had also been carried out. Journalism School of University of Missouri is in the membership of International Alliance of Media Higher Education initiated by CUC, and with the alliance as a platform, the understanding of each other would be promoted to a higher level, as well as the cooperation. Besides, CUC would like to launch a more comprehensive cooperation with University of Missouri in other subjects besides Journalism.
Dean Mills said he was glad to visit CUC after joining International Alliance of Media Higher Education before long, calling back his memory of his first visits to CUC in the 1990s. He expressed his admiration and congratulations to the dramatic transformation and development of the school. The subject system of CUC constituted by Journalism and Communication, Broadcasting, Movie and TV, Information Science as the main body assorting with multi subjects had impressed him. He pointed out that Journalism School of University of Missouri enjoyed more than a hundred years of history, sharing numerous of similarly disposed in opinions in the development of subjects and media education. Except traditional media research and journalism education, he hoped to unfold further cooperation in the fields of new communication technique and new media etc.
Both sides also had discussion about the development of media education in the future. President Su thought that media and education were two of hotspots of the current society. Higher education of media undertook a crucial mission accompanied with more challenges. The development of media education should adjust to the changing reality of media, and lead the development of industry, carrying out innovation of the education form, methodology and content, and cultivate the talented personnel who acknowledged of media convergence ability with an international view and a sense of mission of the time.
The two sides signed a Memorandum of Cooperation after the meeting and reached agreement of further cooperation, approving to launch deep collaboration in the student s exchanges, teaching communication and cooperative research.
The director of International project of Journalism School of University of Missouri Professor Fritz Cropp, the executive of China project Professor Zhang Taiyan were among the visiting delegation.
The Assistant of President Liu Liqun, the Section Chief of International Communication and Cooperation Zhang Lili, Secretary of the Party Committee of Television and Journalism School Lei Yuejie, Deputy Dean of Movie and Television Bi Gensheng, Deputy Dean of Foreign Language School Wu Minsu attended the meeting.
Initiated in 1839, University of Missouri was one of the oldest and largest public in the United States of America, bearing a high reputation as the public school of Ivy League. Journalism School of University of Missouri was one of the best-known Journalism Schools in the world as the cradle of many excellent journalism practitioners who had won The Pulitzer Prizes several times. In 1998, when University of Missouri celebrated its 100th anniversary of birthday, a delegation led by Hu Zhengrong, Vice-president of CUC, went to USA to attend the University s birthday celebration. Communication University of China was in a good cooperative relationship with University of Missouri, with frequent communications of teachers and students and mutual visits of high level. Journalism School of University of Missouri joined in the membership of International Alliance of Media Higher Education initiated by CUC in September this year.
