Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin attended the 2009 American Society for Engineering Education (the ASEE) Annual Conference and Exposition from June 14 to 17 in Austin, Texas. At the Conference, President Gu delivered a speech on June 15 on Engineering Education in China: Progress, Problems and Prospects .
In his speech, President Gu reviewed the history of engineering education in China and then outlined the current issues facing engineering education. He then discussed the challenges and opportunities facing China in this rapidly developing and changing area of education. Finally, Prseident Gu described the strategies and efforts being made in China to develop sustainable engineering education, especially those particular measures which Tsinghua University has put in place in recent years.
The ASEE Annual Conference & Exposition provides a three-day forum at which over 3,500 professors, deans, instructors and students get an opportunity to present their research and interact with colleagues and industry counterparts. This important event is committed to fostering the exchange of ideas, enhancing teaching methods and curricula, and providing networking opportunities for faculty members, deans and industry representatives.
Founded in 1893, the American Society for Engineering Education is a nonprofit organization of individuals and institutions committed to furthering education in engineering and engineering technology.
