President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, visited Tsighua University on July 8, to inaugurate a photo exhibition on one of the world s oldest civilisations, Mohenjo-Daro, organised by Tsinghua University International Centre for Communication Studies (TICCS).
President Zardari was received at the Tsinghua University Main Building by Prof. Gu Binglin, Tsinghua University President and Prof. Li Xiguang, director of the TICCS. He was accompanied by members of his delegation, and his daughters Bakhtawar and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari.
The president is on a six-day official visit to China, to strengthen the political and economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.
Pakistani President and Tsinghua President Gu together unveiled the plaque of photo exhibition, Walking into the Greatest Civilisation A glimpse of Mohenjo-Daro and Gandhara .
The exhibition displays photographs taken at the remains of Mohenjo-Daro and Gandhara civilisations situated at Sindh province of present day Pakistan. The Mohenjo-Daro, a Bronze Age city, is considered one of the oldest known civilisations in the world existed around 2700 BC. The remains of the city, discovered, prove that people were enjoying a prosperous and developed life style.
The photos were taken in February 2010, when a delegation of Tsinghua-Pakistan Culture and Communication Centre under the leadership of Prof Li Xiguang visited this cradle of civilisations in Pakistan on the invitation of President Zardari.
Before the inauguration, the President of Pakistan had a short meeting with Tsinghua President Gu and hoped for more cooperation between Tsinghua University and universities in Pakistan in the future. Prof. Gu appreciated the hard work and desire for learning of Pakistani students at Tsinghua. Pakistani ambassador to China Masood Khan, Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian and Prof Li Xiguang were also present at the meeting.
