The Tsinghua University Centenary Year kicked off on April 25. It was also a day when the University celebrated its 99th anniversary, bringing together alumni from around the country and many other parts of the world for a weekend of reunions.
The Tsinghua campus is vibrating with the joy felt by students, faculty members and alumni who have played a wide variety of roles to plan and execute new events. Many unique features have been charted to distinguish this year from every preceding one, and today marks the formal inaugural of the centenary celebration year and the beginning of much excitement and celebration which will continue through the next twelve months.
The formal inauguration of the centenary celebration year and the centenary book series release ceremony as well as the first forum of the 100 Academic Activities have taken place in the main building of the campus today. Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin, Tsinghua University Council Chairman Hu Heping attended the ceremony.
In his remarks, President Gu noted that the 100th anniversary is a milestone in the university's history. He expressed his hope that all the students as well as members of the faculty and staff would use this opportunity to build Tsinghua into a world-class university and contribute even more to the development of the nation and the world.
President Gu and University Council Chairman Hu also jointly inaugurated the countdown of the centenary anniversary.
Tsinghua Deputy President Chen Jining hosted the ceremony to mark the inauguration of the year and introduced the series of events and activities that will be held. Tsinghua University Council Vice Chairperson Deng Wei hosted the news release.
A new international version of the university's website for its centenary celebration was proudly launched during the ceremony. At the ceremony, Tsinghua University Council Chairman Hu Heping formally opened the new site, which is available in nine different languages to facilitate use worldwide. It will feature the most updated information on the centenary celebration. As part of the celebration, a centenary book series is also being published.
