From April 11 to April 14, the annual conference of the Asia Forum will be held in Boao, Hainan Province. Boao, once a small fishing village, has in recent years become a hotbed of real estate development and tourism activity.
Due to the impact of the Boao Forum for Asia and Boao`s popularity as a tourist destination, Hainan Province has gained a good reputation in the international tourism market. According to statistics, the number of tourists reached 11,247,600 in 2001, 900,000 of which traveled to Boao. The town averages 2465 visitors a day, getting about 8% of the total number tourists in Hainan. After the conference, the weeklong May holiday will bring even more tourists to the island.
