The Kick-off Meeting Site of Corporate Social Responsibility Report of MCC Group and MCC Limited

President Shen Heting made a speech on the kick-off meeting of Corporate Social Responsibility Report of MCC Group and MCC Limited and announced that the preparation work of Corporate Social Responsibility Report officially started on Jan.10. It is estimated that the first report will be officially released by this April. The report, soon to be made public, will illustrate the efforts and achievements made by MCC over the years as a response to the call of the Party Central Committee, State Council and State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), to fulfill the social responsibilities of central enterprises, promote economic development, improve the livelihood of the people and build a strong corporate brand.
At the kick-off meeting attended by the principals of subsidiaries, Shen stated that MCC and its subsidiaries have undertaken the corporate social responsibilities as state-owned enterprises for decades of reform and development, making important contributions to the growth of China s steel industry and promoting its profitability, especially in making the active efforts for developing the new energy-saving and emission-reducing technologies, earthquake relief and resisting the financial crisis. The Ramu project MCC has undertaken in Papua New Guinea was recently honored for its great performance of the social responsibilities and commitment to the host country. The business communities are expected to do more to pay back to the society with time, so fulfilling the corporate responsibilities will become a long-term challenging work to MCC, said Shen.
He continued in his speech that to clearly understand the situation, identify the direction and keep fulfilling its social responsibilities will be the major work of MCC. Firstly, the serious global concern of climate change will be closely relevant to the future of the business; secondly, to keep growing while fulfilling social responsibilities more effectively will be the best way to stay in the market for any multinationals; thirdly, to fulfill the social responsibilities is the mission of MCC while following the scientific concept and building a harmonious society; fourthly, the central enterprises like MCC are expected to become the model in fulfilling the responsibilities.
The president also highlighted the great significance of preparing the report on the development of MCC. Firstly, a strong commitment to the social responsibilities is the historical and strategic option for MCC; secondly, a better understanding of its responsibilities will help MCC Group become the world-class business with international competitiveness; thirdly, the preparation and publication of the report is a must for a listed company in disclosing the information and carrying out the MCC business philosophy that highlights customer satisfaction and sense of integrity.
Addressing the gap the company will need to catch up with, Shen outlined the following points for the entire group company to look at while promoting the social responsibilities: (1) to enhance the understanding and strengthen the management so as to take our social responsibilities as a core and a long-term mission; (2) to complete the first report with due care and diligence; and (3) to establish and improve the MCC sustainability evaluation system in order to sustain MCC operations.
President Shen wanted all the participants to take this report preparation as an opportunity to strength the management of social responsibilities and show our commitment to the society. He wanted to properly identify MCC in the industry in terms of its fulfillment of the social responsibilities, and to gradually establish and improve the MCC sustainability evaluation system in order to sustain MCC operations.
The kick-off meeting was chaired by Huang Dan, MCC vice president. Chen Ying, Director of Beijing Rongzhi Corporate Social Responsibility Research Institute, and a member of the United Nations Global Compact Board deliberated on why and how to prepare the social responsibility report. Wang Xiaoguang, Vice Director of United Nations Global Compact Board China Network Center, and Project Manager of MCC Social Responsibility Report Preparation made the presentation for the plan and specific requirements in making the report.
At the end of the meeting, the schedule of MCC Corporate Social Responsibility Report was determined. It is reported that the MCC sustainability evaluation system and the report will be accomplished by this April, and all the subsidiaries are expected to immediately formulate their own system and prepare their own part of the report based on the main framework of MCC.
