Zhang Xin Wins Business Week s Stars of Asia Award

Ms. Zhang Xin, Co-CEO of SOHO China, has been chosen as one of The Stars of Asia for 2004. The award, given by Business Week, recognizes 25 leaders at the Forefront of Change in Asia. In a feature article in its July 12 issue, Business Week praises Zhang Xin and other Star Entrepreneurs of Asia who have helped Asia remain the world s most economically vibrant region . The article acknowledges the success of SOHO China in the property market and says it s not only one of the busiest builders in the capital but also one of the most admired for the attractive, innovative architecture of its buildings . If there is a common thread among our Asia Stars it is this: Be they mighty official or muckraker, these folks care deeply about their societies and want to make a difference. And that s one reason among many that Asia continues to fascinate , concluded the article.
Business Week s annual Stars of Asia Award consists of five categories which include policy makers, entrepreneurs, managers, financiers and opinion shapers. Winners of this year include Sonia Gandhi, President, National Congress Party, India, Tony Fernandes, Chief Executive, Air Asia, Malaysia and Kunio Nakamura, President, Matsushita Electric, Japan.
Five people from mainland China have been selected as stars this year. They are: Zhou Xiaochuan, Governor, People s Bank of China, Zhang Xin, Co-Chief Executive, SOHO China, Miao Wei, Chairman and Chief Executive, Dongfeng Motor Corp., Feng Xiaogang, Film Director and Wu Chuntao & Chen Gudi, Authors, China s Peasants: An Investigation.
Past winners include Zhu Rongji, former premier of China and Kim Dae Jung, former president of Korea.
