An SDUST delegation led by Vice-President Chen Weijian visited Australian Federal Academy of Sciences and the University of Tasmania from November 21st to 27th.
The SDUST group was warmly received at the Australian Federal Academy of Sciences. Dr. Shen Baotang, Chief Scientist of Mining Technology and Head of the Mining Research Institute welcomed the delegation, and Vice-President Chen gave an outline of SDUST, particularly on its mining discipline in terms of research domains and academic status. Dr. Shen, Dr. Xun Luo, Dr. Cameron and Dr. Deepak Adhikary made presentations on Australia mining research, terrestrial heat research, water in-rush prevention and so on. Through exchanges, the two sides agreed to cooperate in areas like mine high stress monitoring and hazard prevention, subsidence-reduction mining technology under villages and geophysical probing techniques for mine water prevention.
The delegation visited the Geo-science Institute, the National Minerals Center and the College of Engineering at the University of Tasmania. The two sides explored issues like discipline set-up, postgraduate education and scientific research, and agreed to further bilateral cooperation. The two sides decided to initiate the cooperative agreement next year.
