Li Yucai, former Deputy Director of State Forestry Administration, delivered an academic report named Reflections on Development of Low-carbon Economy in China at lecture hall in the library of ZAFU on Nov. 12th.
Under the great environment of coping with global climate change, Low-carbon Economy has become the focus of attention of the entire society. It s a common global understanding that greenhouse gases should be controlled and reduced by means of developing low-carbon economy. Anyway, what is low-carbon economy? How will low-carbon economy affect China s politics, economy and social life? What kind of situation will China face when coping with global climate change? In his report, Li Yucai gave answers from 3 aspects, challenge of climate change and rising of low-carbon economy, joint efforts of the whole society needed to develop low-carbon economy and the big role of forestry in the development of low-carbon economy, and concentrated on the great importance of forestry in the development of low-carbon economy.
Li Yucai said that forestry s one of important approaches in coping with global climate change, so we should widely publicize the superiority of forestry in the development of low-carbon economy and give full play to the initiative and creativity of enterprises and general public to take part in forestry activities such as forest planting and forest protecting; we also should practice low-carbon manufacturing and low-carbon living through forestry measures. He encouraged our university teachers and students to actively do scientific research on development of forestry and positively contribute to national energy conservation and emission reduction as well as coping with global climate change.
The report was presided over by President Zhou Guomo of ZAFU. He said, the report with broad vision, abundant materials, incisive demonstration and strong theory and guiding made more accurate grasp of low-carbon economy for our university teachers and students and further recognition and realization of great importance of Chinese forestry in coping with global climate change in the future. Meanwhile, on behalf of ZAFU, President Zhou expressed sincere gratitude to Li Yucai for concern and supports to our university development for years.
