On the morning of June 8th, Dr. Wang Boqing, CEO of MYCOS, a consulting company of education statistics, gathered a report meeting in NanjingAuditUniversity on Means of Improving Teaching in Institutions of Higher Learning Based on Occupational Evaluation . Deputy CPC Secretary and Vice President Zhang Jianhong hosted the report meeting.
By first introducing graduates occupational situations who entered the job market from 2006 to 2009, Dr. Wang interpreted the Program Planning of Reform on High Education and the reality of student shortage in the future. He thus brought up theidea of improving teaching through result-oriented method. He pointed out that the ability structure and evaluation index of college students include workplace culture and value, basic ability and occupational ability. In contrast, the index system of college students occupational skills consists of occupational status, employment direction, ability and knowledge, job-hunting analysis, student analysis, satisfaction analysis and further-study analysis.
Based on the abundant data analyses of the occupational survey on the students graduated in 2009, Dr. Wang raised various constructive suggestions as to the improvement of major setting up, teaching methods and service systems. Through the research on graduates occupation abilities after three years of working, he diagnosed problems of the current high education system from different perspectives. Dr. Wang held that colleges and universities are in the service industry. Therefore, they need to take into consideration demands of the consumers (students) and the market (employing units). By doing follow-up investigations, institutions of higher learning need to improve themselves in curriculum construction, practice, student administration and logistic services.
Feedbacks from the students and teachers attended the report meeting are quite comforting. Most of them believe that they ve been inspired by the investigation data and conclusions from a third party.
