On the afternoon of December 16, Shanghai Maritime University and China Shipping Group signed a cooperative agreement on deepening collaboration between the two sides, particularly on building a new training ship of 48,000 gross tons.
According to the agreement, based on the principle of mutual benefits and interests, China Shipping and SMU will conduct an all-round collaboration in respects of training ship construction, operation and management as well as education and training, technological research so as to establish a long-term cooperative relationship on the basis of industry, university and research alliance.
Mr. Li Shaode, President of China Shipping, Mr. Ma Zehua, Secretary of Party Committee of China Shipping, Mr. Jiang Hong, Secretary-General of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Mr. Xu Guoyi, Director of MSA Shanghai, Prof. Yu Shicheng, President of SMU attended the singing ceremony hosted by China Shipping.
Prof. Yu pointed out that the new training ship should give the credit to Ministry of Transport, Shanghai Municipal Government and China Shipping who have given enormous support and assistance to SMU. The new vessel will provide a platform serving students and faculties for practice and research activities.
