On June 5, the World Environment Day, Heshibi Chemical Engineering ---the Design Contest of College Environmental Protection Technologies (DCCEPT) was held in South China University of Technology (SCUT). The contest was one of the five subprojects of the Youth Summit of Environment Protection co-planned by Ministry of Environmental Protection of the PRC, Chinese Young Volunteers Association and Guangdong Environmental Protection Department (GEPD). Vice-president ZHU Min and chief engineer of GEPD CHEN Xicheng attended the opening ceremony and made speeches.
In his address, ZHU extended his welcome to the contestants from different parts of the country and expressed his gratitude to those who devoted themselves to this event.
Under the theme of environmental protection and energy saving, the contest was firmly supported by colleges and drew the attention from society. By April 30, 296 teams from 43 colleges and universities, including SCUT, Nanjing University, and Zhejiang University, joined in this activity. The participants amounted to 2,012 people. Through the stiff competition in preliminary contest, 20 teams will enter final in SCUT.
After the day-long oral defenses, 12 projects including Energy to be saved from car emission won gold prizes; 8 projects including Using modified black liquor to make phenol water and coal water slurry won silver prizes. Huang issued certificates to the representatives of prize winners and had group photos taken with them.
