From September 23 to 26, a legal delegation of over ten people from Massachusetts, USA, led by First Justice of Dorchester District Court Miller visited Xiangtan University. On Sept. 25, the US-China Forum on Evidence Law raised its curtain in Xiangtan City. Vice President of Xiangtan University Huang Yunqing, more than forty experts and scholars from legal departments and universities such as Hunan Provincial Supreme People's Court, Hunan Provincial People's Procuratorate, China University of Political Science and Law and East China University of Political Science and Law participated in the forum.
At the opening ceremony, Huang Qingyun and Miller jointly conferred the plate to US-China Legal Exchange Center. Mr. Huang briefed on the historical evolution and basic information of our university. In addition, he pointed out that the visit of the delegation enabled us to appreciate the trial art of American law practice, and he affirmed that the academic activities including this forum would contribute to further boosting scientific research in evidence law and enhancing cooperation and exchange between American and China law experts and scholars.
The head of delegation Miller, Judge Anderson, visiting fellow of University of Massachusetts and co-direcotr of Sino-US Judicial Exchange Project, and Hu Xiaohua, dean of Law School of Xiangtan University delieved a speech at the opening ceremony respectively.
The participating experts and scholars carried out exchanges and explored on general introduction tp each country s evidence rules and law, the exclusionary rule of illegal evidence, the Massachusetts Guide to Evidence 2010 and the rule of evidence in sentencing.
From September 23 to 24, experts from the delegation gave wonderful academic lectures in terms of demonstration and exposition of mock hearings (a medical accident based on a medical malpractice case, evidence of a civil case involving domestic violence) and American discovery of evidence in civil cases.
This forum was hosted by Law School of Xiangtan University, Massachusetts Association of Judges and University of Massachusetts, and sponsored by Research Center of Procedural Law of Xiangtan University.
