On May 23rd, Su Jie, coming from Barbados, won the 1st prize in the preliminary round of the 3rd CCTV Chinese Language Contest for International Students in China held in Wuhan University. Owing to his outstanding Chinese proficiency and wonderful kungfu performance, Su Jie, became the focus in the competition.
Meanwhile, another student from North Korea, Li Cangguang, ranked himself among top 6 winners because of his excellent performance. They will attend the semi-final and final round held in Beijing this August on behalf of HUST and Hubei division.
More than 40 brilliant candidates made this competition fierce and colorful. As soon as he appeared, Su Jie, wearing Kungfu costume, strongly attracted the judging panel's attention. While giving a self introduction, Su Jie invited judging panel to visit his motherland Barbados a beautiful island country in Caribbean when convenient and the judges happily accepted his invitation. Later, Su Jie sang a Chinese song Long De Chuan Ren Descendents of the Chinese Dragon and performed Kungfu, which impressed the panel a lot.
Li Cangguang also brought surprise to the panel and audiences. His natural speaking and standard pronunciation made the judging panel consider him as a native speaker of Chinese language.
It is reported that CCTV Chinese competition is the most influential and important event for international students in China which aims at enhancing their Chinese proficiency and promoting Chinese culture. Thus, this competition enjoys a high reputation among Chinese language learners at home and abroad. After this preliminary, 8 students in total will attend the final round on behalf of Hubei division.
