The Belgian delegation headed by Jean-Claude Marcourt, the vice-minister president, minister of Economy & Foreign Affairs of Walloon, Belgium, visited HUST on June 22. A collaboration agreement was signed between the University of Mons and HUST at WNLO Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics to facilitate cooperation in terms of students and faculty exchanges as well as scientific research.
The delegation was joined by Mr. Patrick Nijs, the Belgian Ambassador in Beijing, Mr. Marc Kohen, the Counselor of Cultural and Education of Walloon and people from Belgian industries, government and media.
Dr. Lin Pinghua, HUST Executive vice president, received the delegation and signed the collaboration agreement with Pierre Dehombreux, president of University of Mons.
In his address, Mr. Marcourt introduced the basis for cooperation between Walloon and Wuhan, and hoped the University of Mons could establish more collaboration with Chinese universities so as to boost regional economic development.
Dr. Lin briefed HUST s cooperation with Belgian universities, saying he was confident the newly established one would be successful with joint efforts from both sides.
Representatives from HUST International Exchange Centre and the School of International Education also witnessed the signing of the agreement.
The first cooperation between HUST and Belgian tertiary education institution dates back to 2001. The signing of this agreement indicates further development in the relationship between HUST and Belgian colleges and universities.
