Prof. ZHAN Wenlong, vice president of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), paid a visit to National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) under the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) on Sept. 14th, 2010.
After hearing a report on the progress of the upgrade project of Hefei Light Source (HLS), achievements of HLS as well as its future blueprint, ZHAN said, "For sustainable development, the upgrade project will need to be adaptable to future changes." He urged the researchers there to set clear objectives for the first phase of the project and make breakthroughs in the frontiers of science.
ZHAN suggested that the upgrade project may learn from the construction of Shanghai Light Source. "When the project is completed, HLS can cooperate with its counterparts of Beijing and Shanghai to make joint contributions to light source development of China," ZHAN said.
ZHAN added that NSRL should take advantage of the upgrade project to innovate large-scale equipments and achieve a wider range of applications of technologies in industry.
"USTC attaches much importance to the upgrade project of HLS," expressed Prof. HOU Jianguo, president of the university. "The staff of NSRL should follow ZHAN's suggestion and do a good job of the project."
