From March 15th to 18th, the fully Digital Beam Position Measurement System (DBPM) designed by the "Key Laboratory of Technologies of Particle Detection and Electronics, CAS" in School of Physical Sciences, passed the commissioning test successfully and was accepted by the Beam Measurement and Control Department in Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF). It is for the first time that Chinese make our own DBPM.
Tests on the DBPM/USTC |
The research group led by Post Doctor ZHAO Lei went to SSRF for the commissioning tests for this system on Mar 15. This DBPM was tested in SSRF for the first time last July. After modifications and improvements, it was approved to achieve a better performance according to the test results. Both the results in laboratory and commissioning tests in SSRF indicate that it is well qualified for the beam position measurement in TBT (Turn by Turn) and CO (Closed Orbit) mode.
As the kernel parameter, the beam position resolution of TBT is better than 1 um, and the acquired position information accords well the optical model of the accelerator and the test results of the Libera Brilliance BPM. In the commissioning test reports, the Beam Measurement and Control Department in SSRF declared that this DBPM could acquire the real beam position and achieves the performance required by the contract; the beam position resolution of TBT is better than Libera Electron and equals with Libera Brilliance.
The Beam Measurement and Control Department in SSRF is satisfied with the commissioning test results and this DBPM prototype system has successfully been accepted; the future research on the product systems was also discussed and a new contract to design three DBPM product systems has been signed.
The fully digital beam measurement method is a latest developed technique, which is under research with great effort both in China and abroad. The Libera product of the Instrumentation Technologies is the most advanced BPM system that has been widely applied in the beam position measurement in many accelerator facilities.
Recently Key Laboratory of Technologies of Particle Detection and Electronics, CAS has worked on the research in this domain, including beam phase & energy measurement and the beam position measurement based on fully digital processing, which is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (LIU Shubin, 10875119) and the Knowledge Innovation Program of The Chinese Academy of Sciences (AN Qi, LIU Shubin, KJCX2-YW-N27).
Through cooperation with the institutes in CAS, the beam measurement systems are successfully designed and applied in the IHEP and SSRF.
