India:Creation of Tirupur District to help development of garment sector

In a budget presented in Tamilnadu Assembly, Thiru. K. Anbazhagan, Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Government of Tamilnadu formally announced the formation of a new district with Tirupur as headquarters.
In a Press Release issued (20.3.2008), Shri. A. Sakthivel thanked the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Thiru. K. Anbazhagan, Hon’ble Minister of Finance and Thiru. M.K. Stalin, Hon’ble Minister of Local Administration , Government of Tamilnadu for fulfilling the Association’s long standing request for formation of a new District with Tirupur as Headquarters.
Shri. Sakthivel said the formation of Tirupur district will certainly boost the progress of Tirupur region, especially the garment sector.
He also welcomed the inclusion of Tirupur under the scheme called Tamilnadu Urban Roads Development project and he said that this will help to upgrade the Tirupur roads which is need of the hour.
Shri. A. Sakthivel lauded the Government proposal for implementation of e-District programme in five district collectorates including Coimbatore and he wished the same e-Governance has to be extended and introduced in Tirupur district collectorate also.
While welcoming the reduction of tax on generators used for producing electricity, he also hoped that the Government’s efforts in implementing the several power generating projects would ensure continuous smooth supply of power in the coming years.
